Brickyard weekend

You might know, along with my art, i like to talk about a few other of my favorite things here, movies, music, and motorsports.

Last weekend i got the opportunity, thanks to my dad, to go to the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis. I've been to a bunch of races before, but this was my first Nascar race. It was a really fun time and a great race. Here are some of the photos from the race.

We got there early in the morning and i got some photos of the track while the sun was coming up

And before the race started, we went on a tour of the garage and pits

I managed to get a few good shots during the beginning of the race as well.

The coolest part of the weekend was when we got the vip treatment and went down to victory lane to get our photo taken with race winner, Jamie Mcmurray. While we were down there waiting, we got on TV, in the background of Speed channel's Victory lane show. all in all, a very cool ending to the race.

so here's McMurray, doing a burnout on the finish line.

and here's his tire afterwards

and here's a photo i took of speed channel filming us

and a couple of shots i got while McMurray was being interviewed by the press and taking photos with his big sponsors.

And there you have it, another great race weekend. Back to some more art.

There's no color it's white...

So, this was all an exercise in subtlety, injecting color into a composition of a white object on a black bg.

Back to caricatures... again

no matter how long i spend working on my other work, i always seem to drift back to caricatures. here are a couple works in progress. a 5x7 acrylic of Eva mendes, and a digital painting of F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton.

Landscape MK II

my official final product for our landscape assignment. i took considerable artistic license with this one, editing out trees and objects from the bg, and also creating a less than realistic color scheme.

done as a warm up to our landscape drawing, the emphasis for the exercise was implying depth by varying the intensity of the colors. i did this last minute so it was pretty loose and not too thought out, but i think i got a good sense of light and shadow.

huh, that's not how i would have guessed shiny was spelled.

anyway, here's my latest project from painting class, drawing a Shiny metal object. next up... a glass of water.

The man with no name

Just another 5x7 paint sketch. i might do something more with this, i've been thinking of doing a series of caricatures of the characters of good, bad and the ugly. we'll see.

finally getting to the part in my drawing curriculum where we get to use color. Between this class and painting, I'm actually starting to get a grip with all that color theory entails, not just knowing when to use a particular color, but why and how. So, this is my first color image for drawing class, done with chalk pastels(which I've never used before). It's rather stylized and the colors are exaggerated a bit, but i wanted to have fun.
