Here we go...
We now have a new president. It's weird for me, having had the same president pretty much the whole time I've ever cared, or even knew about politics. During this election i had a hard time making a decision on who to vote for, feeling that both candidates would make a good president and be good for the country. I did not vote for Barack Obama, but it's obvious that our country needs a president that everyone believes in, and he's definitely the right man for that. He's got pretty big expectations to live up to, and i really hope he does, for this countries sake, because it's my future that's in the balance right now.
I have never drawn a politician in either caricature or otherwise. I suppose that there are such heated opinions in politics, that i didn't want to get into that. It's too bad really, President Bush sure did make for a good caricature subject. Obama does too i guess, his visage has already become a part of pop culture. I heard recently that our new president has created his own art movement "Obamaism", i suppose they're right. We really have gotten to the point of Obama overload, it almost seems cliche to draw his caricature, even now many other Obama caricatures are pouring in today on other blogs like mine. not to mention everyone and their mother has already drawn him.
that brings me to this sketch. i'm planning on finishing it up soon (got a lot on my plate, not just art). one thing i wanted to make sure, was not to have him smiling, firstly, because it's been done over and over, and second i wanted to portray the tone that his new presidency seems to have taken on, one not of this overwhelming hope and the promise of change,at least not yet, but of hard work and determination to get through these hard times, and i think i found an image that gets these feelings across for me.
Anyways, if you've read this far i applaud you.

definately one of the better ones I have seen, even in this early sketch phase. The only thing that is bothering me is that the part of the body where the neck meets the shoulders. It seems off like you meant to have his left shoulder (our right higher up. Not quite sure I am describing what I am thinking adequately.
great as per usual. The sketch is fresh.
(keep an eye out for what I'll be able to show shortly...even though I'm Canadian, I've got my hand in a really cool project that includes this dudes likeness lol)
With that pose you could almost even spoof him into some sort of E.T. type creature.....
You know, like nothing the world has seen before....maybe its just the hands on him.
Great drawing indeed.
