His Dudeness
felt i didn't do an adequate job of capturing Bridges in the previous post, so i took another stab at it. i like it a whole lot more, i noticed that when i do quick sketches like my last post i never really look much at the reference and go by memory. this only really works if your first impressions of the face were dead on, if not it doesn't turn out so well. not to mention you miss the small stuff that really punches up the unique quality of the face.
but this time around i made sure to take a closer look at my reference, and sweat the small stuff. i'm working up to a finished painting of the characters from this movie but i'm taking small steps for now as i've got a lot of work to do. for now i hope you can settle for this, slapped some colors on so it didn't look so bland.

Keira Final
Though it's not as fully rendered as say, my de Niro piece, i've gotten this one to a point where i can stop fussing with it. It's tough ,as many caricaturists will tell you, to caricature a pretty woman. this was no exception, but everyone can be caricatured, you just have to find one little thing to mess with. although i recognized it too far into the process, Knightley has a really goofy looking grin that i couldn't quite capture from this angle. i initially decided to take a jab at her lantern jaw, equally difficult to capture. so this is a kind of amalgamation of those two characteristics. i feel it creates a pretty good likeness.
thanks for looking.

More Me
Nothing new for now. thought that i would share some of the caricatures i've gotten over the last couple of months over at drawingboard and e-caricatures.
Tenzin Dhonyoe, his second time drawing me, i need to get him back.
Victor Payes
Ian
Cliff Roth
Chris Neuenschwander
Phantazmo, apparently my hair reminded him of elvis.
Ramanjit , i think she overestimated my girth.
Giammy
Supermouse.
thanks all, who drew me. it's fun to see how different people see you differently.

Here we go...
We now have a new president. It's weird for me, having had the same president pretty much the whole time I've ever cared, or even knew about politics. During this election i had a hard time making a decision on who to vote for, feeling that both candidates would make a good president and be good for the country. I did not vote for Barack Obama, but it's obvious that our country needs a president that everyone believes in, and he's definitely the right man for that. He's got pretty big expectations to live up to, and i really hope he does, for this countries sake, because it's my future that's in the balance right now.
I have never drawn a politician in either caricature or otherwise. I suppose that there are such heated opinions in politics, that i didn't want to get into that. It's too bad really, President Bush sure did make for a good caricature subject. Obama does too i guess, his visage has already become a part of pop culture. I heard recently that our new president has created his own art movement "Obamaism", i suppose they're right. We really have gotten to the point of Obama overload, it almost seems cliche to draw his caricature, even now many other Obama caricatures are pouring in today on other blogs like mine. not to mention everyone and their mother has already drawn him.
that brings me to this sketch. i'm planning on finishing it up soon (got a lot on my plate, not just art). one thing i wanted to make sure, was not to have him smiling, firstly, because it's been done over and over, and second i wanted to portray the tone that his new presidency seems to have taken on, one not of this overwhelming hope and the promise of change,at least not yet, but of hard work and determination to get through these hard times, and i think i found an image that gets these feelings across for me.
Anyways, if you've read this far i applaud you.

Work in progress
i've been working gradually on this new Keira Knightley caricature and i'm trying to get the colors all correct right now. this didn't end up having the kind of exaggeration i initially wanted, so i might try again some other time. as mentioned in my thread for this on Drawingboard, she's got a weird smile that i just can't do justice from this angle. anyways, here's what i have so far.

Misc. continued
Some more sketches and stuff from the past few days.
first, some added color for the second Ace Ventura piece and a completely new one. i'm thinking i'm going to make one of these into a finished painting soon enough.
and here's a brand new caricaturist caricature, this time of Cliff Roth, just the latest to post his pictures on Drawingboard for me to mess with.
And then some more Celebrity caricatures that are in the process. the first is of Matthew Bellamy of the band Muse(highly recommended). i think it's on the right track, i just want to push the exaggeration on it a bit more. The second is of Kiefer Sutherland,as Jack Bower, sketched up while watching the premier of "24". i kinda quit on this one. initially i thought it would be a piece of cake, but getting into it, his face was a real challenge. i don't think i really got a likeness, or even very good exaggeration, but i'm going to try to take another shot at it soon.

Misc.
Here are a few things from the past week.
firstly here are some sketches for a Caricature of Actress Keira Knightley i'm working on. i haven't quite decided on where to go with this one yet.
And here are a couple new Caricaturist caricatures that i sketched up this weekend. this first one was hard so it's not too ambitious, but the other one i saw what i wnated to do right away, so i played around with the style on it.

"Alrighty Then!!"
i wrote down a list of people i wanted to caricature the other day, and a ways down on the list was Jim Carey. coming back to the list today, i was less interested in most of the subjects than i was when i put them down.
Then I saw Carey on there, and thought what the hell. i've always enjoyed Ace ventura, so i decided to do one from that movie. Once i turned it on i couldn't stop drawing him, such a caricaturable person, especially in a role like that. every scene and every syllable he'd pull another face.
anyways, here's a finished version of a couple of my favorite of the sketches. and i might do a couple more later on.

"You talkin to me?"
I've been watching a lot of classic movies lately, and the latest one was Taxi Driver, i really liked it and i thought the character was great for caricature, plus you've gotta do a caricature of De Niro at least once, right? anyways, i just put this together yesterday, apart from a little refinement, i think it's done.
