My first oil painting

I really never get around to doing any real paintings, and often don't have the motivation to get one done. A while back, my sister asked me to do a painting for her, but i kept putting it off. Last weekend, i decided i'd finally get it done, i chose to do a caricature of her and her boyfriend, and for the hell of it, i chose to do it in oils, a medium i have never tried.

I'm pretty proud of how solid a final product i ended up with, considering this is my third painting in as many years. however, i'm still not 100 percent happy with it. i've never been a very patient artist, and that really comes out in traditional mediums. it's a little rough and the colors are all over the place. After a week of trying different things This is what i feel is the best i can do. And after this practice, I'm really looking forward to doing some more traditional paintings and honing my technique.

anyway, here's the painting, and some of my process.

I love how 'Bill Plympton' the next-to-final image is.

Sal, go for it man. there are pros and cons of oils compared to other mediums, but i enjoyed the process.

Thanks Joe, i keep hearing that but i honestly don't know why, not all that familiar with his work to be honest.
